Entitled “March 25 2021,” this is an original op art style painting acrylic on wood panel measuring 12” X 12”. It is another example of my “Asterism Series” of works. The term asterism refers to the illusion of an “X” or star in the painting that exists only in the eye — not in the painting. Hopefully, this optical illusion is clear in the photos — it is quite evident in person. I borrowed that term from gemologists who use it to describe the star effect in Star Sapphires, Tiger Eyes, and so on. Inspired by Julian Stanczak, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and other op artists of the 1960s. It is finished on all four sides, so no frame is necessary.
This painting was accepted into two juried shows during Summer 2022. It was part of Envision Arts, “Minimalism III” International Juried Exhibition, June 2022, as well as “Break of Day, Edge of Night” International Juried Exhibition, The Painting Center, New York, NY, July 19 – August 13, 2022. It was also accepted into the juried show GEMS V: Exquisite, Intricate, Intimate Small Works of Art, Arts Benicia Gallery, Benicia, CA, November-December 2022.
