Entitled “February 11, 2020,” this is a 24″ x 24″ acrylic on birch panel, and is part of my “Asterism Series.” The term asterism refers to the illusion of an “X” or star in the painting that exists only in the eye — not in the painting. Hopefully, this optical illusion is clear in the photos — it is quite evident in person. I borrowed that term from gemologists who use it to describe the star effect in Star Sapphires, Tiger Eyes, and so on. Inspired by Julian Stanczak, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and other op artists of the 1960s.
